I realised recently that I wasn't just doing therapy. I was trying to win it. I wanted to be the client with the insights, the one who had already connected all the dots before arriving. Performing insight looks remarkably like having it, which is why it took me so long to notice.

Finding Is a Destination. Staying Is a Practice. People talk a lot about finding yourself, but I don't think I've ever been lost in the way the phrase implies. What I've been learning, slowly and with a fairly average success rate, is how to stay with myself. Finding is a destination. Staying is a practice.
